An annual Junior Golf Development Program (JGDP) will be designed to help selected Club juniors develop and improve their golf game to levels worthy of country representation. The program will be monitored and controlled by the Head Professional - Brad McManus. Brad will oversee the progress of the players with the support of fellow Professional Marc Kawasoe. |
Together they will volunteer their time and experience to design appropriate programs tailored to each individual.
A modern and holistic approach will be taken. This will cover all facets of the game including:
- Swing & video analysis
- Shot making
- Short game development
- Course management - scoring
- Strength and conditioning
- Golf psychology
- Tournament preparation
The squad of 8 will be coached as a group, although an individual approach will be undertaken according to personal progress and ability. Realistic goals need to be set and progress must be monitored. This will be achieved through planned skills tests and statistic compilation.
Program Format
Similar to past years, training for the year will encompass 25 x 3 hour sessions on a Friday evening. These sessions will be scheduled appropriately so as to not interrupt examination times for the juniors. A further 25 individual lessons will be offered to all participants outside of super peak periods.
Friday Sessions:
- 1 x 2 hour group session held weekly
- 2 teaching golf professionals (1/4 ratio)
Individual Sessions:
- 20 hours of lessons per student per year
- 8 Students
Selection Process
The selection of the yearly squad will be decided by a sub-committee comprising of a representative of the Greens Committee, namely the incumbent David Tay as the man currently voted in-charge of the JGDP, the Golfing Manager to ensure everything is conducted fairly and squarely, and then both key members of the Golf Academy; the Managing Director, Phil Brew, and Head Coach Brad McManus. The criteria for selection will be based upon:
- playing records (NSRCC Club Monthly Medal results from the previous year and any other tournaments that the Committee see fit to consider)
- playing ability (skills tests held periodically in our Junior Program can sometimes identify talent that otherwise would be undetected)
- desire to participate (determined through an interview style meeting if required)
- availability to commit to the Program (it is a calendar year program, it needs a calendar year commitment)
- Professionals recommendation (we can see the dedication and commitment of various juniors based on their practice regimes)
- parents approval (the time demands on the prospective student has to be made clear to the parents and then they must decide)
The squad will be expected to participate in Junior Tournaments at a Club level, School level and National level where possible and when appropriate.
