Gopal Salim (Teaching Professional)

Gopal has lived a tough life and he is a fighter. Gopal has been involved in the golfing industry since an early age, caddying at Clubs like Sentosa and Keppel as a boy since school days to help support his family since his Father’s passing when he was 12.

It was during these frugal days that Gopal learned traits that would hold him in good stead for his future. Traits such as mental toughness, perseverance, dedication, humility and respect, all traits that form part of every golf professional’s personal make-up at Phil Brew Golf Academy. Since being surrounded by good people during these days, plenty of encouragement and support assisted Gopal in developing his own game and ultimately his future.

Gopal has had a lot of positive influences in his life and through this he has been able to carve out his own career in the game of golf. These attitudes, combined with an incredible work ethic, brought him into the local golfing limelight in the mid to late 90’s as one of Singapore’s most decorated young amateur golfers. Gopal has represented Singapore at SEA Games, Putra Cup, Nomura Cup, Asian Games as well as other Asian country’s national Opens. His final year as an amateur before turning professional was in the year 2000, coincidentally Phil Brew’s first year as National Coach of the Singapore Team. That was when Phil got to see for himself the character of the man and a big reason why Phil treasures the contribution Gopal makes to his team of coaches in his Golf Academy.

Since turning pro in 2001, Gopal has continued to upgrade himself through the years, attending seminars held by world class leaders in their field. He has travelled as far as Perth, Australia to attend Dr. Karl Morris’s “Train Your Golf Brain” and to Miami, Florida in the US to attend talks given by the famous Scotty Cameron, the designer of his world class putters and also Butch Harmon, not only Tiger Woods former coach but still one of America’s leading teachers. It is Gopal’s thirst for knowledge, his quest to become a better person, a better coach, always looking for ways to improve so he can help his students that makes him fit in well with the profile of being a Phil Brew Golf Academy instructor.
